“Farming ain’t easy but we make farming fabulous.”

Planet Green’s fresh and irreverent series, The Fabulous Beekman Boys, puts a spotlight on urbanite couple Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell who leave everything behind in New York City as they attempt to become organic “gentleman farmers” at the fabulous Beekman Farm.

Director: Angela Rae Berg

Release Date:16 June 2010 (USA)

Storyline: Brent (physician and ex-Martha Stuart exec) and Josh (author and former drag superstar) buy a farm in upstate NY and try to make their entrepreneurial venture a success without sacrificing their personal relationship. The farm is home to a menagerie that helps produce everything from egg white soap to cheese, but with Josh still living in the city to earn a paycheck and Brent living full time at the farm dealing with the day to day tasks, the couple have created a recipe for conflict. They try to make the most of their weekends together on the farm now that their getaway has become their latest project, but there’s always more work: be it a harvest weekend, book signing or launching a new flavor of cheese. There s a lot on the line but the “boys” are driven to fulfill their dreams and we get to peek at their insane life behind-the-scenes with this wonderfully wacky reality show.

Even if it's a reality tv, The Fabulous Beekam Boys reads really like a movie script; the life story of Josh and Brent is a mix of dreams come true and your worst nightmare. They embark in the adventure of owning a upstate New York historical farm with the idea, I think, of having a weekend retreat to show off to their classy friends, thinking that, if they can afford the lease to buy it, then they can afford to have it. But a farm don't run by itself, and the bill to maintain it can be even more expensive than the lease. Plus add to it the economic downfall that let Brent without a job, et voila, the dream becomes a nightmare and even a 10 years lasting relationship is in danger.

I think the reason why so many people like this reality, me first, was that it let really see you the real Josh and Brent, their bitchering to each other, the trouble in paradise they are facing, even if, in the end, they never forget to say I love you to each other.

The feeling of seeing a reality is soon forgotten since the cameras are not really intruding; Josh and Brent are left to each other, in good and bad, and the viewer can take side for one or the other, but mostly you are not able to choose since both of them have faults: Brent is a little OCD, everything has to be perfect, like in a vintage postcard; Josh is a little more laissez faire, but then can be really picking when you stomp on his interests (like the historical garden); both of them, in the end, are able to compromize and meet each other in the middle. That is probably the perfect recipe for a long-lasting couple.

I'm always on Brent's side...lol. I think he's just adorable with those eyes, and he can do anything he wants as far as I'm concerned.

I'm even planning to take a short trip to Sharon Springs to see what it's like.

I wanted to do the same when I'm in NY in October, but it's too far away from the city and we will not have the car this time :-( It will be for another time.

And I'm quite fond of Brent too, even if I'm not a good housekeeper like he is!
