Update on Italy's earthquake

  • Apr. 6th, 2009 at 2:06 PM

Since I received four different mails in the last few minute asking me how I was, I believe that the news of the earthquake in Italy is spread also outside the country.

Thank to all people who wrote to me and if you want, my email address is always open to friend, but maybe it's better if I post a little update: I'm fine, I live in the North and the earthquake was in the South.

It was pretty bad apparently, and I'm near to all my friends who live near there. My thoughts are with you.

Good to hear you haven't been hit. Ouch, I saw the photos on Reuters.

Good to hear that you are alright, but like everyone else we are concerned for people in that region.

I just saw the report of the quake. Thank you for posting to let us know you're all right. My best wishes go to your friends in the area.

Yes I realized that probably some news gave the notice since people started to write.

Thank to you and also to all the previous comments for thoughts and best wishes.

So glad to hear you're okay. It's front page news on the New York Times today.

Thanks for the update, Elisa. I just now heard about the earthqueake in L'Aquila and I got worried about you since I wasn't sure where in Italy you are. I'm glad you're okay!

Glad to hear you're okay.

Most of my Italian friends don't actually live in Italy, but of course they've got family back home, so I hope everyone's safe.

I wish to all you friends and their relatives to be lucky as me, but unfortunately last count is more than 150 losses and more than one thousand of wounded people in hospital. Plus entire villages completely destroyed. Elisa

I've just been looking at the BBC website. The number of deaths could have been a lot worse given the intensity of the quake, but there are so many people injured and homeless. :-(

That part of Italy is not overly inhabitated, most little town had empty houses since people went in the cities to find work. So maybe this is the reason why the victims are less than expected, but for us talking of hundreds of people is still a great number, we are not used to such catastrofic events. Better we are not used to have them often, sadly earthquakes are almost always the reason. We don't really realize that we live in a sismic country. Elisa

The news was on our news very quickly, as does most horrific world news. :(

I'm glad you're fine and I hope you will know of no one who has suffered from the earthquake!

Thank you Robin, and lucky me no one near me was affected. I have my father's relatives living near there, but since they moved from Friuli (another very sismic county in Italy) and they feared quakes, they restored the house to prevent such events and so they are safe. Elisa

I'm so glad you posted! I was worried when I heard this on the news on my way in to work. Unfortunately I have no internet access there other than strictly work related.

Sorry you worried for me, but I'm very safe, don't fear. I don't live near there. Elisa

Thank you for posting the update, Elisa. To a great extent you are our "face" here and the first I know many of us thought of when we heard about the earthquake. I'm glad you are well and yet, sorrowful as more news unfolds.
