Event: A Reading with Michael Montlack, CAConrad, and Brian Teare

Date: 11/13/2011
Time: 5:30 pm
Place: Giovanni's Room
At 12th & Pine Streets in Philly's "Gayborhood" in Center City
345 South 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107

In celebration of Michael Montlack’s new collection of poems, Cool Limbo (NYQ, 120 pp., $14.95 pb), he is joined by CAConrad (Book of Frank, 2nd edition) and Brian Teare (Pleasure).

Michael Montlack’s work is a series of dazzling portraits that are accessible yet complex, hilarious yet poignant, down-to-earth yet ethereal. Like its cover, which features the title poem's sexy 70s chick lounging--stoned--by the pool (as she neglects the water-winged kids she's supposed to be babysitting), the book is the best kind of party--unofficial, unpretentious, and unabashed.

Brian Teare’s most recent book, like Tennyson's ‘In Memoriam’, sees within a personal loss evidence of an epochal. Asserting the lover's body as a lost Eden, revisiting again and again the narrative of "the fall, the book also records the eventual end of mourning and a return to the ecology not of myth but of the literal weather and landscape of California.
