It’s New York City in the 1950’s when Timmy discovers his own sexuality. But he’s aroused by men and women, which confuses him. Then Timmy meets Dickie, who likes to take young men under his wing and teach them the arts of fellatio, and Dickie's current young protégé, Shelly.

But Dickie is abusive, much like the men who have used Timmy for their own sexual release since he was a child. His attraction turns to Shelly, but who wants nothing to do with him.

Timmy is also seduced by an older Polish woman, an acquaintance of his mother’s. Confused by his own desires, Timmy returns to his favorite activity -- cruising the pathways of Tompkins Square Park.

Will Timmy accept his sexuality without fear or shame? Or does he risk losing himself to his own hungry desires?

Dorian Corey (1937 - August 29, 1993)

Dorian Corey (circa 1937 – 29 August 1993) was an American drag queen and performer who notably featured in Jennie Livingston's 1990 documentary about the ball culture of New York City, Paris Is Burning.

Corey grew up in Buffalo, New York. After studying at the Parsons The New School for Design, Corey toured in the 1960s in the Pearl Box Revue, a cabaret drag act. Dorian was a member of the Pearl Box Revue, a group of night club performers managed by Jay Joyce. The group traveled up and down cities and venues on the East Coast. The group consisted of Miss Dorian, Jay Joyce, Clyddie McCoy and Tony LaFrisky.

Corey died of AIDS related complications at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in Manhattan. After Corey's death, in October 1993, his friends were going through his things at his Harlem apartment. (Corey was well-known for his tailoring skills.) As his friends dug through his wigs, sequined dresses, and feather boas, they stumbled onto a heavy trunk. Inside the trunk was a male body tucked into a fetal position, dried like a mummy, and wrapped in imitation leather.

The victim, later identified as Robert Wells, had a history of arrests for rape, burglary, and assault. It was determined he had died from a shot in the back of the head, and the he had been killed at least 15 years previously. His family had last seen him in in 1968.

While there were no additional clues in Corey’s apartment, Chi Chi Valenti, the producer of “Jackie 60,” (an underground club where Corey often performed), said there was a rumor that Corey had left a note explaining that he killed Wells in self-defense during a break-in.

Sky Sea Mickeljohn doesn't compromise. He knows what he stands for and stands for it openly: the environment, world peace, and being gay. And worse, what's going to happen when someone opens Adam's closet door?

2 days to the end of eligibility period (August 31), 2 weeks to the end of submissions period (September 15), I don't think number will change much and so, we can finally say that YES, this year Rainbow Awards will be a HUGE event:

Rainbow Awards: Evolution

So, Aleksandr Voinov (vashtan) asked if I was able to estimate what was the Rainbow Awards's evolution from 2009 to today, 2012... and being the maniac I'm, I saved all my spreadsheet and so of course I can.

Here are some number for your enjoyment:

Screenshot - 29_08_2012 , 20_25_25

the second year we had in increase of submissions of more than 100% (more than double), after that, the increase rate was of 40% each year.

Screenshot - 29_08_2012 , 20_26_02

Screenshot - 29_08_2012 , 20_26_19

there is for sure an increase in the "Alternative Reality" categories like Paranormal/Horror and Sci-Fi/Fantasy; Mystery/Thriller too. Due to the too much generic category "Romance" this year we splitted it into Romance, Erotic Romance and Erotica, and indeed now it's a more equal distribution. In any case, all categories saw an increase in submissions.

Screenshot - 29_08_2012 , 20_26_35

Screenshot - 29_08_2012 , 20_26_47

There is without doubt a trend in the increasement, unfortunately, Bisexual/Transgender is still struggling, and I cannot, how I'd like, split it into Bisexual AND Transgender, they would probably not reach the mimimum submission limit. Lesbian so a little stop in increasement between this and last year, and in any case is still far from the Gay category. I tried many time to involve Lesbian publishers and authors, I have part of the Jury that is only reading Lesbian novels, but aside from Bold Strokes Books, Lesbian submissions did see a reduction in the increasing trend this year, even if, in any case, are more than 2011.

If you'd like more insight in the numbers, please ask, and discussion is open if you want to share your thoughts.

Fireman’s Carry (Carry Me Book 1) by Charlie Richards

Well, I can definitely say this book surprised me; it was a light, good and yes, sweet comedy, and I was totally not expecting it. I have read another book by Charlie Richards, and while I liked it, it was a quite ordinary paranormal romance, novella length, that didn’t particularly stand out. Maybe the problem was I read one book in an already started series, and I probably lost part of the connection with the plot.

Fireman’s Carry is about a gay firefighter falling in love for his, straight, next door cop. Carl is out of a bad divorce, is in no mood to date women and is only searching for a good friend to shoot the sh***t on Friday night in front of a BBQ steak and a beer. That works fine for Vincent too, just out from a bad relationship and moving to a new neighborhood to change perspective. Their friendship is easy and nice, probably helped by the stressful careers of both of them, even if one is gay and the other is straight, Vincent and Carl have lot in common. They both believe in family and long term relationships, are not interested in playing the field, and prefer a quiet night in front of a DVD rather than getting drunk in some club.

Carl has never thought as himself as bisexual, but I think he is the classical “Kinsey’s scale” case: he has never labeled himself since there was no need, but he is not against the idea to acknowledge his feelings for Vincent. Carl is open to possibilities, and if that path is leading him towards Vincent, why not? If that makes him gay? Fine, bisexual? Fine as well, Carl is simply someone that can love and now he is in love with Vincent.

I really like how these two men could be emotional without being weak. Both Carl than Vincent are able to open themselves to love, but at the same time they are also able to see it’s not simple, and they have to take baby steps. Nevertheless, they are not denying what they are feeling, not once.

Love the supporting characters, Carl’s partner, Ryan, and Vincent’s fellow firefighter, Trace, are worse than a coven of spinsters, but are SO funny!
