Louisiana003Here are the newest special calls for Torquere along with final calls for the Halloween and Zombie calls

It's hard to think of Halloween with all this deep summer heat going on, but it'll be here before we know it! And we're going to have a Halloween Sip Extravaganza on October 31st.

The theme of Halloween is extremely wide open -- it can be paranormal or fantasy/urban fantasy, it can be contemporary focused on October 31, call it Halloween or Samhain. As long as there is some element to tie your story to the general theme of Halloween it fits. Humans, demons, angels, vampires, elves, werewolves, shifters of all kinds, fairies, whatever otherworldly creature you can think of -- they're all welcome here.

Word count is 3000 to 8000 words. Deadline for submissions is September 20, 2012. Please send all submissions to with Halloween Sip in the subject line. For formatting questions or other content questions, please refer to our general guidelines, here:

Zombie stories are hot right now... and here at Torquere Press we think they could be even hotter! Get your delicious brains churning, and give us your unique, zombie-themed love stories! Is your hero a zombie-slayer -- or is he in love with one? Maybe your hero is desperately searching for a cure to
save an infected loved one. Maybe he's the one making the zombies in the first place. Maybe he's even a zombie himself!

These are the stories we want to showcase in "He Loves Me for My Brainsss", a new anthology of sexy, romantic m/m stories about men finding love in the face of a zombie crisis. All settings and heat ratings are welcome, but we're looking for strong characters in fully realized, happy-ending stories with a little more zing to them than the "survivors meet and fall in love" stock standard. Note: While it is true that the undead can be sexy, and it is also true that part of the fun of zombies is their gross-out factor, we ask that you avoid combining these two elements directly, in order to appeal to the widest possible audience.

Any word count from 5000 words and up is welcome, no stories shorter than the minimum please. Stories should be sent to with Brainsss Anthology in the subject line. Deadline for submission is October 1, 2012 for a projected January 2013 publication. Stories will be contracted for first time print and electronic rights, and payment will be $50.00 US plus contributor copies. Please see our general submission guidelines for how to format your submission.

Just like Masks Off! this anthology starts with a masquerade. That's where things diverge, though. Masks Off Too will focus on the same themes of mystery, seduction, reveal, only this time beneath that extra layer are vampires!

Stories for Masks Off Too! should be sexy, romantic male/male tales where at least one partner is a vampire, and may include light BDSM, though that is not a necessary element. Stories should be between 5000 and 12000 words long, and should be submitted in full with a synopsis and author biography.

Send submissions to with Masks Off Too! in the subject line. Payment is a $50.00 flat fee for first time electronic and print rights for three years, and a print copy of the book. No reprints, please. Deadline for submissions is November 15, 2012 for February 2013
(mardi gras!) publication.

Like your short stories with a little bondage, dominance, spanking, or submission? So do we! In fact, we like BDSM play stories so much that we’re giving them their own category. Tales of Leather will be a part of our Sip short story line, but will be guaranteed to bring on all the hot BDSM action that readers crave with a new Sip line cover that will reflect the content. Please follow Sip guidelines for submission, stories should be sent to with Tales of Leather in your email subject line.

If there's one thing Sam knows for sure it's that you can never go home again. As a feline shifter who grew up in a family of wolves, he's used to being a freak. He stays in the city and tries to get his family to visit him, but when a loved one passes away, Sam has to go back to the New Mexico desert for a last goodbye. Gus only comes back to the pack at gathering time, once in a blue moon. He's usually a wanderer, but he's with the pack when Sam comes home. Gus and Sam have never gotten along, but this time around Gus is surprised by the attraction he feels for this new, slinky version of his high school nemesis. Sam and Gus may not be able to resist each other, but finding time to be together and overcome their differences might be too much for them, especially when danger lurks just around the corner, and all around the world. Can cats and dogs live to learn together, or are Gus and Sam destined to fail?

Lucius’ Bite (Family of Misfits) by K-lee Klein

I have to admit that I prefer my paranormal romances to be on the light side, and I was very pleased to discover this new author and her young and cute characters. Lucius is part of a family of misfits, i.e. Ali, alias “Mama Bear”, a white witch who manages an households of shifter rejects, Lucius, an artic wolf, Manny, a mountain lion, and Kristof, a bear. Lucius doesn’t care much for humans and so he is pretty upset when Ali announces he has invited three of them for the Yule dinner, and one of the three is supposed to be Lucius’s blind date. Nicu is a Romanian gypsy, young and innocent and with a purpose in mind, to find his spirit mate; Nicu knows Lucius is the one, but he wants for the other man to make his own decision, not to be forced into a mating.

What I liked of this novel is that the two guys are young and yes, also scared by these new feelings that somehow they are not able to understand. Nicu is probably the one who is stronger in his beliefs, even if he is not as physically strong as Lucius. Lucius is stubborn and scared of letting his heart open, but he is not a bad guy; I had the feeling he had a lot of growing to do considering an emotional evolution, but with a little push on the right direction, I was sure he was able to reach it.

The novel is the first in a series, Family of Misfits, and while I really liked Ali’s characters, and it will be interesting to read his story, what I’m really looking forward is Manny’s ones. From what I understood, Manny has some mental issues, he is naïve like a child, but he is fully grown for everything else; that story will be a delicate one to write, but if done in the right way, it will be so good.

Another interesting point is the modern society where this family is living, a Canadian small town where humans and paranormal creatures are living together, mostly in harmony.

Southern Fried by Rob Rosen

A mix between mystery / thriller and cinderfella romance, this is the story of southern boy Trip, the very wealthy heir of an antebellum mansion and estate in South Carolina. Trip is gay and open about it, as you will learn the very first day of his arrival back in the deep south after ten years of absence: he meets Zeb, the stable boy, and he will find out that he is no more the only gay boy of the town. But he will also discover that he is not the only heir to his granny, apparently he has a brother he didn’t know about. And here the mystery starts: where is Beau? And more important, who is Beau? Why no one has ever heard about him, why he is not living in the mansion?

What I found quite funny of this novel is that, wherever Trip is turning, gay boys are appearing and to Trip is like a candy story for a child. I think that, at one point, Trip started to wonder why he spent the last 10 years of his life in “cold” NYC, when he could find all this entertainment right in the place he likes the best. Yes, since, despite everything, Trip is a 100% southern boy, and he plenty enjoys the old way of life of that country. In a way, Trip is even snob, he has that aura around him, like he could be friendly with the servants, but they still remain employed hands. Oh sure, he likes Zeb, and I’m sure they will have a nice and long relationship, but Trip will always be the lord of the manor and Zeb the stable boy.

Even the mystery remains on the light side, something I have already the chance to experience with this author’s novels. The boys got in trouble, but they always manage to come out of them unscathed and smiling, like it was a funny adventure more than a dangerous situation. If you like to laugh more than worry for your heroes, any Rosen’s novel is right for you.
