2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: The Worst Werewolf (The Immutable Moon #1)

1) I adored this book from the opening page and I didn't want to put it down at all. I particularly enjoyed the writing style and the way the author introduced the reader to the world in her imagination. A thoroughly enjoyable read and I wanted to read on into book two immediately.

The werewolf said, “Race you to the road.” It was the last thing Tovin heard before his life became uncomfortably complex. Before that night in the forest, Tovin was the type of guy to play it safe. Happy wearing the same shoes, buying the same deodorant, and eating the same meals day after day, he thought his simple existence was pretty great. At least until his boyfriend dumps him for being boring. Heartbroken but on a mission of vengeance, Tovin decides to start a new life filled with excitement, danger, and maybe a meal from a questionable food truck. A date with Garvey would start it all. Handsome, sophisticated, the man is everything Tovin thinks he needs. It’s a pity he turns out to be a werewolf on a mission to save his pack from destruction. Now Tovin is caught up in Garvey’s world. Abducted and forced to be the bloodservant of a powerful Alpha, he lands right in the middle of a brewing conflict that threatens to destroy humanity.

2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Surrogate Jeanne G'Fellers

1) Fantastic characterization, and a truly wondrous amount of world-building. There were a few oddities to the plot, leaps-of-faith required to accept certain things, but overall enjoyable.

2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: For a Good Time, Call (Bluewater Bay #17)

1) As odd as the term asexual romance may seem to some, I quite liked the way this approached the idea of romance, connection, and bonding before intimacy. Lovable characters and the family mystery helped move things along.

Thirty-seven-year-old Nate Albano’s second relationship ever ended three years ago, and since he’s grace—gray asexual—he doesn’t anticipate beating the odds to find a third. Still, he’s got his dog, his hobbies, and his job as a special effects technician on Wolf’s Landing, so he can’t complain—much.

Seth Larson, umpteenth generation Bluewater Bay, is the quintessential good-time guy, content with tending bar and being his grandmother’s handyman. The night they meet, Seth’s looking for some recreational sex to escape family drama. But for Nate, romantic attraction comes before sexual attraction, so while Seth thinks they’re hooking up, Nate just wants to talk . . . genealogy?

Dude. Seriously?

So they declare a “just friends” truce. Then Seth asks for Nate’s help investigating a sinister Larson family secret, and their feelings start edging way beyond platonic. But Nate may want more than Seth can give him, and Seth may not be able to leave his good-time image behind. Unless they can find a way to merge carefree with commitment, they could miss out on true love—the best time of all.

2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Pieces of Me (Spectrum Nights #1) Melanie Hansen

1) This was an amazing story. From the beginning of the book, I was shoved head first into the fast-moving roller coaster which didn't stop until the last page. I wanted to hug these young men when they were 17 and even more so after when they were 24. So much emotion, sorrow and pain these two young men went through with their respective Mothers one can't help but feel for them. This is a heartfelt story which some will find hard to read for all the abuse Scott went through from his Mom. I really didn't want the story to end, but luckily I have the second book so I can see how the story continues and hope for a very well deserved HEA. Worth the read. A ten across the board from me.
2) I looked for faults in this captivating heartwrenching series, but there were very few. Sometimes too much on the edge of cliché especially one character; a raw tale of difficult childhood to difficult live; but author draws very realistic scenario; great second characters.
