2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Spun! (Shamwell Tales #4) J.L. Merrow

1) Cute story, fast read, great characters.
2) I think I will have to invest in the rest of this series to find out about other characters. At first I didn’t think I’d like it, but the more I read the better it got.
3) This was a lovely read, the characters were interesting, unique – some in a quirky way, some in a mundane way, and made for a great blend in the book’s cast. I loved that the story was funny without brushing over important topics. It was light and entertaining, then switched to touching in all the right places. The pairing was unusual, a postman finding out he’s interesting in men later in life being an oddly perfect choise for the younger man used to the London scene and savvy businessmen.

With friends like these . . .

An ill-advised encounter at the office party leaves David Greenlake jobless and homeless in one heady weekend. But he quickly begs work from his ex-boss and takes a room in Shamwell with easygoing postman Rory Deamer. David doesn’t mean to flirt with the recently divorced Rory—just like he doesn’t consciously decide to breathe. After all, Rory’s far too nice for him. And far too straight.

Rory finds his new lodger surprisingly fun to be with, and what’s more, David is a hit with Rory’s troubled children. But while Rory’s world may have turned upside down in the last few years, there’s one thing he’s sure of: he’s straight as a die. So he can’t be falling for David . . . can he?

Their friends and family think they know all the answers, and David’s office party hookup has his own plans for romance. Rory and David need to make up their minds and take a stand for what they really want—or their love could be over before it’s even begun.

2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Gazes Into You (Mr & Mr Detective #1) Alex Jane

1) As it’s quite obvious from my writing, this was my favorite read of this year’s submissions. This was the perfect mystery for me and I found it hard to put it down. John Right read a bit like Monk, if Monk was cool and hot and had a tragic backstory. His stalker behavior was creepy and endearing at the same time and I loved that all the other characters, while understanding it and its causes, never brushed it off as nothing to worry about. The investigation and the romance intertwining made this read more enjoyable for me and I just couldn’t put it down until I finished reading it.

Ex-detective John Right likes to watch. There’s no harm in it. The latest object of his obsession—a twenty-something stranger who chains his bike outside John’s office—doesn’t feel the weight of John’s eyes on him, doesn’t know about the secret recordings or what John does with them in the dead of night. Except when the kid disappears, John finds himself doing far more that just watching. Reluctantly, John has to start thinking like a cop once more as he frantically tries to track down his mystery man. Although when he finds him, John is left with more questions than answers. And the more he learns, the more he wishes he’d never started looking in the first place. Can John get to the bottom of the mystery without giving away his own dirty secret? And without giving in to his urge to do more than simply watch? Well…nobody’s perfect.
