Buck & Elayne Angel

Buck Angel is a transgender filmmaker, advocate, adult film star, educator, and motivational speaker. Buck Angel is married to the professional body piercer and body modification enthusiast Elayne Angel. They were married in New Orleans on November 17, 2003.

In January 2012, when a girl scout infamously called for a boycott of Girl Scouts of the USA for admitting a transgender girl into one of its troupes, Angel spoke out and said, "When I was growing up, I was a Girl Scout. I was born as a girl, but I always knew I was a guy...they accepted me into the Girl Scout troop and everyone was loving and giving and it was never an issue."

Buck Angel (born 1972) is an American female-to-male (FTM) transsexual, adult film producer and performer, and LGBT icon. He is also founder of Buck Angel Entertainment, as a vehicle to produce media projects. He received the 2007 AVN Award as Transsexual Performer of the Year, and works as an advocate, educator, lecturer and writer.

According to his website, Angel was a pronounced tomboy as a child and adolescent. Born in the San Fernando Valley area of California, his gender atypical behavior during childhood was generally accepted at home. But, once his secondary sex characteristics began to develop around age 16, his home life became increasingly tense. After a suicide attempt in high school, his parents sent him to therapy. It was in his therapy that he admitted, for the first time, that he felt like a man. The information was not well received and according to Angel "They were going to put me in a mental institution." Unaware of the existence of treatments for gender dysphoria such as hormone replacement therapy, he lived for years as a female, during which time he took drugs and drank alcohol. Though he was profitably employed as a professional model, he has stated that he was generally dissatisfied with his identity and existence, and "was not loving life".

Angel began to produce and star in his own line of adult films (Buck Angel Entertainment). As he had not had any genital surgery and still possessed a vulva, he created a unique niche, calling himself "The Man With a Pussy".

In 2005, he also became the first FTM to be featured in an all-male porn film produced by an exclusively gay porn company. This was the Titan release Cirque Noir. He is considered as the pioneer of an entirely new genre in gay porn films.

Also in 2005, Buck performed in Allanah Starr's Big Boob Adventures, directed by transsexual Gia Darling, which included a pornographic first: a filmed sex scene between a male-to-female transsexual (Allanah Starr) and a female-to-male transsexual. For that performance, Allanah was nominated for two AVN Awards including Transsexual Performer of the Year and Most Outrageous Sex Scene.

In 2008, he had a lead role in Buckback Mountain that earned the film two nominations for "Best Alternative Release" and "Best Specialty Release" at the GayVN Awards.

In September 2008 he flew to London, where British artist Marc Quinn began a life-size sculpture of Angel, to be included in the sculptor's upcoming global tour. The finished sculpture has been and shown all over the world.

In October 2008 Angel appeared in director Ed Powers' book NAKED about the adult film industry. He filmed a sex scene with porn star Wolf Hudson for the accompanying documentary film NAKED, produced by mainstream photographer Justin Lubin.

In 2010–12 he created an award winning series about trans male sexuality called "Sexing The Transman XXX".

Between 2006 and 2010, Angel appeared on various talk shows including Howard Stern, Tyra Banks, Maury Povich and Secret Lives of Women in the US, the Morning Show in the UK, and the Jensen Show in the Netherlands.

In February 2010, Angel spoke at Sex Week at Yale University and was also invited to speak at a Master's Tea. In June 2010 Angel spoke at IdeaCity10 in Toronto.

In 2012 Angel created a dating website for transgender men called BuckAngelDating.com. He said he did this because “there was still no special dating site catering to the unique needs of transmen.”

Elayne Angel is a professional body piercer and body modification enthusiast. She was born Elayne Steinberg, on August 6, 1960. She has angel wings tattooed on her back.

Elayne Angel has an AA degree in Sign Language Interpreting from Pierce College. She also has a Professional Designation Certificate from the Fashion Institute of design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles.

Angel became interested in body piercing after a casual encounter with a woman bearing a nipple piercing at a Renaissance Faire in 1981. Through her encounter, she became involved with and employed by Gauntlet, the first, and at the time only professional body piercing studio in the United States. While employed by Gauntlet, she worked at the Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco branches. She was the first recipient of a Master Piercer certificate, from Gauntlet founder Jim Ward, which she received on December 1, 1992. Her technical contributions to the field of body piercing include the invention, naming and popularizing of several placements, including the fourchette and the lorum piercings.

In December 1993, Angel opened her own studio, Rings of Desire, in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. Rings of Desire was the first body piercing studio to receive state licensing from the Health Department in Louisiana, and the only licensed body art business within the French Quarter. Elayne has been involved with the crafting of regulatory legislation regarding body piercing in Louisiana, and the training of the professionals who enforce those laws. She also distributed the research study for doctors at the University of South Alabama on the relationship between female sexual satisfaction and vertical clitoral hood piercing. Positive results were published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

While in New Orleans she also established Chiwawa Gaga, with Justine Roeg, a store catering to accessories for small dogs.

Following Hurricane Katrina, in 2005, Angel closed her New Orleans studio and relocated to Mérida, Mexico, in the Yucatán. In March 2009 she published The Piercing Bible--The Definitive Guide to Safe Body Piercing. It was released by Random House. She currently guests spots at piercing studios around the US and gives talks and workshops on piercing practice around the world.

Angel is a member of the Association of Professional Piercers (APP) and served two prior terms on its board of directors in the position of Outreach Coordinator and Medical Liaison. She is now serving her third term on the Board, and is again the Medical Liaison for the organization. She is currently (2012) president of the organization. She has edited their newsletter "The Point", authored a variety of brochures that have gone on to be industry standard for piercing care, taught workshops internationally and attended and participated in yearly APP conventions.

Angel is best known for her large tattoo of angel wings on her back. The lower right wing is interrupted by a heart with a banner across it reading "slave". This design, which was the inspiration for the logo for her studio, was registered as a U.S. service mark (No. 2,645,270, issued November 5, 2002) and was done by Bob Roberts of Spotlight Tattoo in Los Angeles, California in 1987, it has since been cancelled due to the registration not being renewed. After receiving the service mark for this design, the circled "R" was added to her right buttock by Joey Galiger in Los Angeles, California, at the advice of her attorney.

Her entire lower body has been tattooed with fish-like scales and fins, giving her a mermaid-like appearance from the waist down. This was done over an eleven-day period by artist Juli Moon at her studio, Juli's Bed and Breakfast in Seabrook, New Hampshire. Symmetrical tattoos of flowers and vines extend from her wrists to her biceps, done in 1991 by her former husband, British tattoo artist Alex Binnie. Small flames were tattooed over her eyebrows by Cap Szumski of Timeless Tattoo in Atlanta, Georgia in January 1998. She also has small tattoos of flames behind each ear, which were also done by Galiger. One of her recent works, done in 2005 by Walt Clark of NOLA Tattoo, is a miniaturized version of the vines and flowers from her arms, which covers both hands. Her most recent work was also done by Walt Clark, which is a set of sinuous snake-like designs from her hairline to the top of each shoulder.

Over the years, Angel has had a variety of body piercings, including multiple (5) tongue piercings, various genital piercings, nipple piercings, navel piercing, ear piercings and facial piercings.

Perhaps her earliest appearance in print is an uncredited photo by Sheree Rose featuring her then incomplete wings, in the seminal publication Modern Primitives, published in 1989.

Elayne Angel has been married three times.

Her first husband was porn director Ira Levine (currently married to porn star Nina Hartley). They married in Century City, CA, on February 14, 1987. They were divorced on December 19, 1988.

On October 28, 1991, she married English tattooer Alex Binnie in London, England. They were divorced on November 13, 1996.

Angel is currently married to porn star Buck Angel (his professional name).
