Ed Freeman: I.T. Dramatic Scenes

Ed Freeman's early career was all about music; first in New York, where he was a road manager on the last Beatles' tour, played guitar on dozens of pop recordings and worked as an arranger and producer with Carly Simon, Cher and Don McLean (American Pie) among others.

Living in Los Angeles now and working as photographer, he creates commercial and fine art images that have been featured in hundred of publications. Two books of his work have been published. His architectural series - Desert Realty and Urban Realty - are the subject of touring museum shows.

He travels the world taking pictures, teaches Photoshop at Santa Monica College, still plays piano, is fighting a losing battle to learn Mandarin Chinese and swears mightly that he will write the Great American Symphony someday - whenever he gets some spare time.

Don't hold your breath.

His motifs are for the most part nudes and landscapes that he often turns into dramatic scenes with the help of computer technology. In doing so he has described an incredibly expressive photographic language. His works have been published in countless magazines and anthologies.

The California desert as you've never seen it before and never will. This is Desert Realty, a stunning collection of surreal photographs. Glorifying ordinary structures and subverting the conventions of traditional landscape photography through digital manipulation, Freeman gleefully guides us through a dreamscape of palm trees and lurid skies, bringing the desert and its humble architecture into focus. In the vanguard of acclaimed photographers using digital techniques to express their artistic vision, Freeman also includes concise explanations of how the photos were created making Desert Realty a veritable primer on digital image manipulation and an inimitable addition to the history of Western landscape photography.
