After losing the family fortune to a fraudulent psychic, inventor Henry Strauss is determined to bring the otherworld under control through the application of science. All he needs is a genuine haunting to prove his Electro-Séance will work. A letter from wealthy industrialist Dominic Gladfield seems the answer to his prayers. Gladfield’s proposition: a contest pitting science against spiritualism, with a hefty prize for the winner. The contest takes Henry to Reyhome Castle, the site of a series of brutal murders decades earlier. There he meets his rival for the prize, the dangerously appealing Vincent Night. Vincent is handsome, charming…and determined to get Henry into bed. Henry can’t afford to fall for a spirit medium, let alone the competition. But nothing in the haunted mansion is quite as it seems, and soon winning the contest is the least of Henry’s concerns. For the evil stalking the halls of Reyhome Castle wants to claim not just Henry and Vincent’s lives, but their very souls.

Jordan is one of my favorite authors because she writes incredibly gripping paranormal fiction with lovable main characters pitched up against scary foes and situations. This book is a standalone, and although initially unfamiliar with these characters, I soon grew to love them and want them to survive and get together in the end. They did, and I hope this is the start of a series. The secondary characters were well fleshed out too - not mere cardboard cutouts. The idea of combining a scientist with a medium is original to me and worked well.
Yet another new author for me and, WOW, now I know what I have been missing I will certainly be reading more of her work. This story gripped me from the beginning and wouldn't let me put it down until I'd finished. The plot was incredibly well thought out with lots of twists and turns. The writing style was very easy to read, the pace was good and the characters were well rounded. I loved this story.
One of the best stories in the group. The rivalry between Henry & Vincent was amazing as well as their passion. The racial issues were right on point and I appreciated having been able to read a story that was so inclusive of various characters and situations. I do feel there was a plot hole left open, but the story was good and entertaining. On the edge of your seat entertaining. Wish I could give it more points. Absolutely great story.
I enjoyed this book. The plot was creative and original. It was well thought out and had a clear arc. My only negative is that that the romance wasn't nearly as developed as the rest of the rest of the story. Very well done. I felt a part of the story from beginning to end. Overall I liked the characters. Even the spectral ones. However the part about Elizabeth being transgender seemed like an after thought. More as if thrown in as a result of current events (ie Kaitlyn Jenner) rather than a true part of the story. I would have liked that to be explored more. Overall good. Appropriate language for the time period.
I loved very word of Restless Spirits. The plot has both a good pace and a delicate touch, and all the characters were interesting and diverse.
