2016 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: The XYZ Mysteries by Iza Moreau (85-04-16-2016)

1) Awesome, well written story(stories). I loved the Calhoun sisters and the fact that this story(stories) took place in the 70's.

2) "The XYZ Mysteries" is a delightful collection of detective stories patterned after the Sherlock Holmes stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Xande is the Sherlock caliber detective, who can tell the quality of a man's coat just by the way he knocks on the door. Yolanda is a lesbian Watson, telling the stories with charm, and Zoe is their mysterious missing little sister. The mystery stories stand alone, but when read together in sequence, they have a plot all their own leading to a satisfying conclusion. Classic mystery readers will love "The XYZ Mysteries"!

3) Very good characters development, top rate here, soon followed by plot and setting development.

Sisters Xande, Yolande, and Zoe Calhoun make up XYZ Investigations in 1974 Miami. The oldest, Xande, is a young hiippie with blonde dreadlocks, Yolande is a pistol-packing, curly-haired lesbian, and Zoe, well, Zoe is missing. These six connected stories are not only unique and lively murder mysteries, they also tell the story of the three sisters within the context of a very odd time in America's history. Drugs, male hustlers, music, spousal abuse, and even horses find their way into Yolande's secret files. By the author of the popular Small Town Series.
